Nuclear winter?
by Nuggehalli Pankaja
(Bangalore, Karnataka, India)
“Spring has come"
Sang the cuckoo
Melting
The wind morose-
Clouds sullen,
In tones joyous.
“Yes, it’s spring,
So fine! Lovely!
Echoes of other cuckoos
Whispering
Through nests
Covered with foliage green.
“Has it, really ?" wondered I,
Strained by thoughts stained
By mind wherein
Not even shadow of spring!
Spring lies not in seasons,
But in thoughts . . . . . .
Thoughts which verily
Have the power to transform
Any atmosphere
Into winter,autumn, spring. . . .
At present. . . . nuclear winter?
