Metamorphosis of Familiar Faces-2
by Gayathri Devi Dutt
(Bangalore, India)
Mother
(2nd one in the series of 12)
An Army officer's better half
an embodiment of bravery epigraph.
The Refugee origin, atheist husband,
settlement community formed a Prism
Beaming through the Prism gained optimism
Designed the prism layout to a maze
with signboards for entries to exit and braze
A multilingual, voracious reader turned into a bookworm
Her literary Repertoire encompassed all genres to churn
Inspiring and illuminating putting in picture to the children Played games, recited poems, took to picnics and guided them to learn
Intellectual character was moulded by a fusion of
the north and south culture in food & festivals was
routed to strengthen
A victim of Patriarchy drained out and emancipated
owing to the demise of the spouse though medicated
Fossilized Patriarchal thoughts & Practices
did not hinder her empowerment strategic
A ready Reckoner of micro & macro finance
with foresight, vision & information articulate
A Chronic Asthma took a toll on her
Wheezing weakened the nerves in her
vision blurred, breath inaudible
utterances unvoiced hushed into
Coma and thereafter whisked away
to the land unknown.
