Supermodel
by Shivshankar Menon
(Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India)
You don't believe me when I say
That it is this girl's face
That intrigues me : it doesn't seem
To belong to her body,so divinely,so
Earthily shaped and exposed
In a million YouTube viewings
Her eyes tell a different story as if she
Is letting her body live dangerously
Letting the world do what it likes with it
While her heart remains in the small town
Where she grew with dreams
Of becoming a teacher or doctor until
Made brutally aware by someone, somewhere
That there was a ready market for bodies
Like her's ; that the day would come when she
Would be able to name her price
