The villages around Melkote are set amidst a dense forest and interspersed with lush green fields and water bodies.
On our return trip, we visited a lake called Kere Thonnur, which is about 1 km away from Melkote temple. Thonnur lake is a beautiful lake and one can sit and spend time there watching the natural beauty. Some local women were washing the clothes amidst laughter and they were watching us amazingly. An old man came there and stared at us in amusement.
We spent some time taking photos and chatting with the locals.
We had a plan to visit Big Banyan Tree (Dodda Aladamara ) on our way back, but because of too much traffic on the road we had to cancel it.
