Amritsar Diaries

Tucked in a corner you lay
all these years
in a bustling street
in the lanes of Amritsar
Tell me, didn't you
yearn for me all these years
among the shrill of the lake
of The Golden temple
early morning?
When a puffing long-distance train
pulled into the station
and you heard the faint engine sound
about a mile away
didn't you expect me
to be one among the many getting down?
Jallianwala Baugh - - oh do you remember
how we, silently walked through
immersed in our thoughts
of those long gone
Don't you miss my company when you
walk alone?
The month of November,
oh tell me do you;
do you miss the ajwain parathas
we had together in the shivering cold?
Didn't you cry whenever summer came;
not wanting to have aam ka aachar
without me?
Nothing remains now; but
a faint consciousness
Tell me, can you see my shadow
gently lurking upon your soul
whenever you descend from the steps of the veranda
to go outside?
